Lifeguards / Swim Instructors
The Paperny Family JCC is currently seeking Lifeguards and Swim Instructors to join our team, under the supervision of our Aquatics Manager.
Lifeguarding and Water Smart Safety
- Aspire to a high standard of safety in the pool hot tub and sauna areas
- Stand / Sit / Walk 15-minute walk cycles and scanning every 20 seconds
- Enforce and education patrons on pool / hot tub and sauna rules and regulations
- Keep accurate track of pool statics doing head counts every 30 minutes
- Set-up pool according to schedule; lane ropes, toys, equipment, etc.
- Perform swim tests for children
Water Chemistry
- Do regular water tests and understand the parameters of healthy water
- Demonstrate how to deal with contaminations and respond accordingly as set out by legislation
- Enforce swimmer to take showers before entering pool, and no shoes on deck
Certification & Leadership Course Instruction
- Be prepared for your lessons and use the resources provided; Lifesaving Society (LS) lesson plans, awards guides for standards, and equipment
- Meet your candidates at the designated meeting area and take attendance in a friendly, accurate, and quick manner
- Transfer names to the LS exam sheets and continuously evaluate your candidates
- Be prepared for group inter-term reporting due mid-point of the lessons
- Able to provide constructive feedback to candidates to help improve their swimming, guarding or instructing skills
- Advise management of any changes to attendance and / or candidates
- Ask for support when needed and be open to feedback
Team
- Keep all certificates current
- Attend life guarding in-services and aspire to high standard of aquatic fitness
- Check communication and schedule on a regular basis via Facebook and When to Work online programs
- Respond to team requests in a timely manner via Facebook, When to Work, email or text – within 24 hours or less
- Follow the protocols for requesting a sub or trading a shift
- Be on time – in building five to 10 minutes before shift, on deck and ready for scheduled time. If you are going to be late, please contact the customer service desk and have them radio the pool advising of same
- End shift as scheduled, provided your replacement has arrived for their shift
- Wear proper attire including: guard shirt, name tag, whistle, fanny pack, and radio
- Complete time sheets accurately and on time
- Commit to a minimum of two shifts per month, and four in-services per year
Member Service
- Ensure that you have a strong understanding of all services and programs offered in the Aquatics department and other areas
- Regularly acknowledge, greet, and engage in informal conversations with patrons
- Adhere to a high level of organization and cleanliness of the pool and deck area – everything returned to its designated space
- Refrain from engaging in personal or sensitive topics
- Ensure that you store and clean-up personal belongings in a timely manner – designated areas in kitchen, fridge, and locker room
- Walk through change rooms periodically to ensure safety and cleanliness
- Deal with member complaints in a courteous, reassuring manner – if unable to resolve advise management immediately
Maintenance
- Complete opening and closing procedures
- Demonstrate respect and care of equipment – advise management and remove items that are unsafe
- Complete minor / major maintenance duties as per Weekly Maintenance Check List – initial form when completed, advise management as to why items were not done after your shift
- Adhere to the facility’s standards of safety and cleanliness
Emergency Response
- Demonstrate knowledge of facility emergency procedures
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in first aid / CPR / AED
- Demonstrate respect and care of first aid / training equipment – advise management and remove items that are unsafe
- Respond to an emergency in a calm and confident manner
Special Events
- Assist in the organization, promoting, running, and clean-up of any special events or programs – as needed
Additional Duties
- Anything else that needs to be done (the proverbial “duties as assigned”)
