
Aquatics Operations Coordinator
As the Aquatics Operations Coordinator, you will play a key role in overseeing the operational efficiency and high standards of programming within the Steven Blitz Aquatics Centre. You will help maintain our department’s commitment to safety, cleanliness, and quality, while effectively managing scheduling, onboarding, and training for all aquatics staff. You’ll be an integral part of the Aquatics Leadership Team, helping us stay informed on industry trends, represent the JCC at external events, and participate in frontline operations as needed. You will also be part of the exciting implantation of the JSwim program in fall 2025.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
- Lead the success of aquatics operations and programming, ensuring high standards are met for both areas.
- Assist in staff evaluation, offering constructive feedback and guidance for operational and programming expectations.
- Facilitate additional pool activities and enforce safety standards, ensuring compliance with departmental policies.
- Play a role in the hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training of aquatics staff.
- As a key member of the Aquatics Leadership Team, you will also participate in frontline operations as needed and ensure the team delivers exceptional customer service to all members and guests.
Administration and Scheduling
- Oversee the scheduling of aquatics operations, including lifeguards, aqua fitness classes, and rentals.
- Assist with planning and conducting departmental in-services, staff training, and evaluations.
- Regularly track and report on trends within provincial aquatics facilities.
- Ensure timely upkeep of administrative paperwork (certification results, reports, and worksheets).
- Manage the inventory of aquatics consumables and ensure the availability of necessary materials for operations.
- Support the implementation and review of aquatics policies and procedures.
Lifeguarding & Water Smart Safety
- Ensure health and safety of all patrons in the aquatics department, adhering to National Lifeguard Certification requirements.
- Provide on-deck supervision of aquatics programming, ensuring constant scanning of the pool area.
- Maintain active communication with patrons and team members, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.
- Enforce and educate patrons on pool safety, water smart education, and facility rules and regulations.
Maintenance
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the aquatics area, following all pool procedures and Alberta Health regulations.
- Perform maintenance tasks, including water testing, cleaning, and responding to pool contamination incidents.
- Coordinate with the maintenance department regarding any chemical imbalances or required repairs.
Communication & Public Relations
- Maintain clear and accurate records, as well as daily logs and shift reports.
- Build positive relationships with internal teams, members, and guests.
- Respond to concerns or issues raised by patrons, ensuring effective communication.
Emergency Response
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill in emergency procedures, including first aid, CPR, and AED.
- Respond calmly and confidently in emergency situations, ensuring the safety of all patrons.
Special Events
- Assist with the organization, promotion, and execution of special events as required by the department.
Qualifications
- Mandatory: Current National Lifeguarding (NL) Certification, Lifesaving & Swim Instructor (LSI) Certification, First Aid/CPR C/AED Certification, Standard First Aid Instructor Certification, NL Instructor Certification, Trainer Certification(s), Police Security Check (within 3 years).
- Assets: National trainer, previous aquatics leadership experience (3+ years), Pool Operator 1 certification, additional education in Recreation Management, Kinesiology, or related fields.
- Must be available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and varying shifts.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs or more.
- Capable of working in a noisy, hot, and humid environment.
- May require standing on deck for extended periods.
- Must handle chemical hazards and cleaning supplies safely.
- Availability to work varying shifts, including overtime or being on call during emergencies or short staffing.

Schedule
- Sunday to Thursday, flexible hours to complete job duties (including some evenings, mornings, and a weekend day).
- 37.5 hours per week, with coverage for frontline aquatics operations as needed.
